Exploring the Peloponnese

This year we maped out a journey that wasn’t as big as usual. We decided to hop around the Ionian island to explore the gorgeous rich nature, countless emerald bays and lovely villages. Every island is unique and absolutely worth a visite. These are a few of our favorite places:

Ithaka is a quiet island. In our beloved bay, Ormos Agios Andreas or as we  call it ‘the goat bay ‘, is a freshwater source under the seawater. This makes the water at the surface more or less drinkable. Every day at dawn and dusk, wild goats come and drink here.

Cephalonia is home to picturesque villages including Fiskardo, Kioni and Assos. And of course we can not forget the beautiful Myrthos beach. This beach was the setting for the movie ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’.

Zakhynthos is more touristy. But on the westside of the island, between huge cliffs you find beautiful small beaches. Those can only be reached by boat. But one must be careful and check the weather forecast first. Because here is no shelter when an NW wind rises.

Also the small island of Paxos, south of Corfu, is beautiful. Lakka is our favorite anchorage. Here you can enjoy both the azure blue bay and the picturesque village. The nice restaurants and cozy bars make Lakka an attractive anchorage for many sailers.

According to us, Corfu is a must every summer. It is delightful to be able to relax for several days in the marina of Gouvia after weeks of intensive sailing. In the afternoon we often sail to the nearby cave to swim and to lunch on the boat. But what it realy makes so special for us is our favorite restaurant, Aries taverna. Here we enjoy a true Greek evening with great food and a super atmosphere. Guests are entertained with Greek dance every night.
